I have listed below some websites which I have found incredibly entertaining, useful and unique personally. Hope you enjoy:

Photography:

http://flickr.com/ A very good place to share your photos and join a friendly community.

http://www.photoanswers.co.uk/  A good source of photographic questions and answers with visual help as well. Well laid out site and informative.

http://yannarthusbertrand.org/ One of my most favourite photographers. I absolutely love Yann's work, his Earth from the air photo's are so good. Yes, he may be extremely fortunate to have access to unlimited flying hours within a helicopter which most people are not able to but he has a fabulous eye for composure and an incredibly steady hand. I saw his exhibition when it was on at the Natural History Museum in London, it was so good to see the photographs blown up to such a large scale. I would urge you that if there is an exhibition local to you in the future, definately do not miss it, you will not regret going.

http://www.waynewrightphotography.net/ An excellent source of some of the finest landscape and nature photography. All seen, felt and taken by someone I am extremely proud to class as one of my closest friends, Wayne Wright. Wayne is an incredibly gifted photographer with an excellent eye for detail, flair and composure, all wrapped up within one of the nicest, honest and most kindest-hearted individuals you could ever hope to have the pleasure of knowing.

http://agoanotherblog.wordpress.com/ A really nice site written in French and with some lovely images by my good friend Patrick. A person of natural flair, a kind heart, words of wisdom and an open mind. In short the kind of person who you are proud to class as your friend.

Misc:

http://www.kentnews.co.uk If you want to know about anything newsworthy that’s going on in Kent then this is the place to check out.

An excellent site. Fresh, handsome and innovative which is home to the class leading e-editions of the award winning Kent-On-Sunday newspaper and its sister publications. Editorial is sharp and photographs are of a consistent high quality.

KOSmedia are based in Kent and are extremely passionate about their home county and it shows with how they provide constant help and advice for its readership, including launching the highly successful ‘Clean, Safe and Healthy’ Campaign in partnership with the NHS to promote hand cleanliness and hygiene, which I was personally also very proud to be a part of.

If you do see a copy of one of KOSmedia’s publications, definitely do yourself a favour and pick one up and be entertained, enlightened and informed. Some things in life just instinctively feel right and in the newspaper world KOS products are in a league of their own.

http://www.alternate-shadows.co.uk/ If you live in Kent and can travel to Charles Dickens hometown of Rochester then I sincerely urge you to check out this excellent performing art group. Led by the one man funnybone that is Richard Harding, the good people of Alternate Shadows perform all manner of different shows including comedy sketches, variety performances, murder mystery evenings, plays and pantomimes. Review, book then see, your humour deserves it of you.

http://www.jamesllewellin.com/ An amazing man, the kindest you could hope to meet, both generous in mind and inspiring in body. James's life story of how he overcame odds to become the british bodybuilding champion is both enlightening and exciting. Check out James's DVD to see how perserveance and determination can help you achieve whatever you set your mind to and accomplish your dreams.

http://www.kentarchaeology.org.uk/ I absolutely adore archaeology, my childhood memories include a mix of antiques roadshow (where the person with the potential antique would patiently listen and nod politely whilst the expert waffled on for an age about its history and other related trivia, when you knew by simply looking in their eyes, that the only thing they were really interested in was 'how much was the thing worth'!), the legend with the mullet that was 'Lovejoy' and digging deep holes over the back fields to where we lived (which turned out to be a rich source of Victorian rubbish dumps) for glass bottle tops, ornate clay smoking pipes and other assorted antique memorabilila. Dinosaurs and Egypt both fascinate me and I would love to be able to one day go on a dig, that would be a dream come true. This is an excellent organisation closer to home and well worth checking out and potentially joining if you live near Kent.

http://www.durrellwildlife.org/ A fantastic site which will introduce you to the man that is Durrell, author and conservationist. His love for animals shines through and his mission in life to protect wildlife from extinction is a lesson everyone should take to heart and get involved in. The conservation trusts HQ is in Jersey and I hope to visit there myself in the not too distant future. Durrell, the man and his love for wildlife is someone I can very much associate myself with.

http://www.wildlifewarriors.org.au/ Excellent site highlighting why its so important that everyone does their bit NOW for wildlife conservation before its too late for many species and habitats. Has links to all family sites including The Crocodile Hunter and Australia Zoo.

When I heard Steve Irwin had died, I was so upset. Here was someone who through his sheer power of magnetism and force of boundless energy and personality had brought all manner of wildlife so up close and personal more than ever before. He was so fresh, so invigorating, so pure, so alive. I couldnt believe someone like him, and so young would just go so soon and with still so much more to accomplish in promoting the safe welfare of animals. Some may say he was too enthusiastic and sometimes a little irresponsible, but that is exactly what made him so watchable, without his passion for life and for all forms of wildlife on this planet he wouldnt have half the impact he had or been the man he was. I always wanted to visit his Zoo whilst he was alive and see him in person and see his shows, it will be sad that when I do finally visit, he wont be actually there in person. But even though he's now gone, his legacy of protection, awareness and understanding will always live on.

http://www.gamestm.co.uk/ Quite simply if your at all into videogames, this is the best multiformat magazine there is.

http://www.bbcfocusmagazine.co.uk/ The best Science and Technology magazine on the market, clearly laid out in a consistantly eyecatching visual style. Editorial is sharp, articles are well written and well researched.

http://www.gofishing.co.uk/ An excellent fishing site. Q&A's, good editorial, video presentations, hints, tips and stories. If you enjoy fishing whatever the discipline you will find something here to entice you. Featuring the codfather of sea fishing, Alan Yates, and also the Godfather of fishing full stop, John Wilson. Also if your new to fishing or want to rediscover why you fell in love with fishing in the first place, please check out http://www.passionforangling.info/ , orchestrated as always by the amiable Hugh & Sue Miles.

http://www.stephenwiltshire.co.uk/ and http://www.banksy.co.uk. Two of my favourite artists. Banksy is the ultimate urban street artist and Stephen is an incredibly gifted guy whose modesty is only matched by his natural talent.

With art in general, I simply adore everything including the old artists of centuries ago and also up-to-date modern and vibrant art. I do feel the artists and painters of old though were and still are the benchmark for true talent. Unfortunately though, much like the genuine craftsman of every other trade, genuine hardwork and the passions to create a masterpiece are simply disappearing to be replaced with what we mainly have in society today, with some people who are just simply out for a quick buck as fast as they can and have no interest in creating anything that will stand the test of time. Unfortunately I suppose it’s the accumulant of the ‘throw away society’ we live in today in most areas of this beautiful world.

I don’t have much time for many of the so called artists of today, for those people who pretentiously call themselves ‘artists’ but purely set out to shock people with their ‘work’ and in doing so masking the inability of any natural artistic talent.

Damien Hirst is one who does not deserve his status as a proper artist, he is simply someone who has a sick perversion with dead and decaying animals, how anyone can gain genuine happiness by looking at deceased animals mocked up with fancy titles will never not amaze me, death is never glamorous. Yes, his work produces strong emotions but surely not the kind that you would want to look again at such monstrosities. Unfortunately when there are still people crazy enough to spend enormous sums to pander to the ‘creative talents’ of people like Hirst and be taken in that their work is something of great importance then this alternative modern art will sadly continue.

Tracey Emin is another one, with her small but well used tent displaying all her many sexual encounters, it just simply showed her lack of morals, principles and respect for herself than any genuine artistic endeavour.

With a dirty unmade bed, a light bulb flicking on and off being just a few top competition nominations and winners of recent years, it is no wonder that this type of ‘art’ continues to draw out similar minded people who look for the short cut to judge success and go for the ‘shock and awe’ technique that is blighting any way forward for genuine artists to be acknowledged for who they are and what they produce.

Unfortunately with yearly prizes such as the Turner Prize offering large cash prizes, I fear that the ones with genuine talent will continue to be overlooked in favour of those who will continue to chance their luck and dream up more outrageous ways to shock people and palm it off as work that are ‘deep’, ‘spiritual’ works of art that should be viewed and ‘looked into’. I do sincerely hope that in future years there is a tide of popular opinion that will once again cast true and good art upon the shore.
